Ecivon is the word “novice” spelled backwards. With novice meaning “A person new to a field or activity”, we chose Ecivon to represent the opposite meaning of novice, defining Ecivon as “A resource to make one experienced, wise or skillful through education related to anticoagulation, asthma, cholesterol, diabetes, and high blood pressure.”
Academia - Ecivon is a student developed and driven Internet-based software system found at ecivon.onu.edu that provides “Longitudinal Outpatient Cases” (LOC’s) for use by colleges and schools of pharmacy to help educate students with respect to anticoagulation, asthma, cholesterol, diabetes, and high blood pressure. The cases, designed by students under the direction of a faculty member, are used as “patient simulations” in which other students are the responsible pharmacists. Ecivon provides educational articles, written by students, related to anticoagulation, asthma, cholesterol, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Ecivon provides forums to promote discussion related to anticoagulation, asthma, cholesterol, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Ecivon provides monitoring tools that allow application of the LOC’s.
The Ecivon Project Group is responsible for the content and management of the ecivon.onu.edu website. There are four “teams” that consist of a faculty mentor, and four pharmacy students. The 2010 – 2011 teams include:
